Match-fixing claims rock tennis world as Australian Open gets under way

However, one of the investigators, Mark Phillips, told the BBC, “There was a core of about 10 players that we believed were the most common perpetrators, that were at the root of the problem really.”

The world of professional tennis was rocked by a major gambling scandal Monday after a leaked report named dozens of players suspected of rigging matches in exchange for cash, and one of the sport’s biggest stars said he wanted those names public.

“It soon became clear they didn’t really want our advice on that or anything else,” Phillips said. Among other notable claims, the report alleged that three possible fixed matches took place at Wimbledon, the most prestigious tournament in tennis.

“You’d have one player [who] would win a set and then they would go a break of serve up,” Phillips said, “and then almost as soon as that happened there would just be a flood of money [bet on] the other player, who would then miraculously win eight games in a row.”

“I think it’s always disappointing when stories come out like this just before a big event,” Kermode said. “It’s super serious and it’s super important to maintain the integrity of our sport.”

In all, investigators named 28 players as having taken part in suspect matches. “But we are so confident there’s nothing in the sport that has been suppressed.”

The BBC and Buzzfeed reported that it would not name names at this stage because it was impossible to fully determine whether the players had taken part in match-fixing without access to phone, computer or bank records.

At a press conference Monday, ATP President Chris http://cornell.edu Kermode denied that officials had sought to cover up suspected improprieties.

The BBC reported that eight of the 16 suspected repeat offenders were scheduled to take part in the Australian Open, the first of tennis’ four majors, which got under way Monday in Melbourne.

The investigators also discovered that members of three gambling syndicates, based in Russia, Sicily and northern Italy, had bet large amounts of money on dozens of matches.

Phillips said that when the investigative team presented their findings to the ATP’s newly formed Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU), they received little response.

“I would love to hear names,” Roger Federer said Monday. ATP President Kermode told the BBC that the evidence presented by the investigators was too weak to act on.

The report also claims that 16 players ranked in the Top 50 over the past 10 years, including some who have won Grand Slam doubles titles, have been repeatedly reported to tennis authorities for taking part in suspicious matches, with no action being taken by the ATP.

The contents of the report, prepared by investigators working for the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and dated from 2008, were first reported on by the BBC and Buzzfeed, which did not name the players involved

Officially Done With Sports Betting

The reality is that the house has nothing to lose, but you do.

Ultimately, if many people who bet will be outright honest, one always looses more than they win. I honestly wish I lost, which would have discouraged me from playing again. While I would win from time to time, I would also lose. I will not say sports betting is wrong, but I would suggest that anyone who plays be careful not to go overboard. I have to admit; I never believed that there was any such thing as being addicted to gambling- I always thought that people could just stop gambling whenever they wished or whenever they felt that had lost too much money; Boy was I wrong.

Addiction

While many people may not feel the pinch of losing small amounts, they will come to realize that they have lost quite a good amount in the long run. The chances were good anyways and I only used a little cash, but I won something.

I was never much of a gambler, and initially believed that people who do so were simply wasting their money- More like throwing it away. The majority will either lose a lot of money or remain stagnated (neither winning a lot nor losing a lot).. Although I never liked to gamble with my money, a friend of mine convinced me to bet on a certain team that I have always been fun off. The problem with small winnings is that they get a person to continue betting more and more.

So, is it really worth it? I do not think so. On the other hand, some people will continue playing with the hopes of recovering the amount they lost, which only leads them to continue losing more.

I am sure there are so many people who have very interesting stories to tell about how much money they have lost with sports betting and gambling. However, after comparing how much I had won and how much I had lost within the few months that I plaid, I realized that I had lost more than I won. Again, I know of people who have won big, but they only make up about 1 percent of all the people who bet. What are these issues you may ask?

After playing for about two weeks, I wanted to win more and would use the money I had won to bet on more games. What happened you ask? Well, I won. There are a number of issues with sports betting and gambling in general that I am very concerned with. Loosing small amounts did not seem to be much of a problem, but in total after the few months of playing, the amount was more than I was comfortable with.

Personally, I felt like I was standing on quicksand- Not going anywhere- slowly, but surely sinking. The problem here is that the few people that win big influence many more to believe that they have good chances of the same. This is simply not the case. Since I would only lose a small amount, I did not feel like it affected me much. The small amounts won at first will always be the trap that will keep people hooked with the hopes of winning big. It was time to call it quits. While a good number of people will often claim to have won a small amount, the reality is that many will lose more fun88 login money than they win.

Ever had a leach suck on your blood? They produce this substance that keeps the skin numb, which allows them to continue sucking more blood with the person feeling pain- Greedy bastards :) My experience with sports betting was more the same. Here is what I realized from the experience. Remember, too much of anything is bad.

Waste of Money

Although I did not lose that much money, my sports betting experience brought me to one very important realization- It’s simply not worth it.

I know of people who have won big- I mean really big; that is a fact. While I may have had total winnings of about $60 within the two months, I had lost about $80- As the small winnings made me happy and all exited; I did not give much attention to the amounts I was losing

A Dream Fight Card For Ufc 100

Firstly, Rampage reportedly turned down a crack at Evans because he didn’t feel ready, opting to fight Keith Jardine at UFC 96 instead. But are we also looking past it a little bit? Maybe. This could be a classic — not if, but when it happens. Are we pumped for UFC 95 betting? Of course. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs Rashad Evans (light heavyweight championship)

Randy Couture vs Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira

What a sendoff it would be for two of the greatest heavyweights ever to walk the Earth! Both legends looked like shadows of their former selves in losing their respective interim championship fights to Lesnar and Mir. Considering his dominance of the lightweight division, BJ would be the online betting favorite, but I wouldn’t count out Florian one bit. No GSP/Silva yet. Anderson Silva has to defend his title at UFC 97 and Thiago “Pit bull” Alves has earned his welterweight title shot against St-Pierre. He’s improved dramatically over the last year or two and his boxing is off the charts now. Also, Evans would probably have to defend against the undefeated Lyoto Machida before facing m88 bet Rampage…so the stars would have to align beautifully in the next few months for a Rampage/Evans bout to happen.. Wouldn’t everyone – Couture, Nogueira, fight fans, Dana White – want to say goodbye in style? This would be an epic, emotional clash between two of the smartest, most accomplished fighters in MMA betting history.

Sorry, MMA betting maniacs. Mir got the better of a very green Lesnar in February of ’08 but the freakishly athletic, freakishly massive Lesnar has improved exponentially since then and pummeled the immortal Randy Couture into oblivion at UFC 91. White, please! No title at stake here, but I seriously think a Griffin/Franklin bout would go down as one of the greatest fights in UFC betting history.

If you’re a UFC betting fan, you know how well Dana White and company work the hype machine. Mir looked phenomenal in his last fight too (against Minotauro Nogueira), so this tilt would be hotly contested at the sportsbook.

Georges St-Pierre vs Thiago Alves (welterweight championship)

Kenny Florian vs BJ Penn (lightweight championship)

This one obviously ain’t set in stone. Aren’t you therefore pretty damn curious about what’s in store for UFC 100? White already blew the roof off with UFC 91, 92 and 94. Keep in mind that anyone fighting in upcoming events may be hard pressed to be ready for this one (hence the absence of Anderson Silva from this fantasy fight card).

You know the two behemoths are on a collision course and Dana hasn’t picked a date yet for the rematch. How will he top them for the centennial celebration? We’d suppose he could bring in lasers and fireworks or execute Mike Goldberg on air. Jardine is an awkward matchup for the counter-puncher Rampage, so he’s no lock to win. The hammer-fisted Alves would be a sneakily scary matchup for GSP, who has been caught in the past…though Alves looked ready to soil himself when he spoke with GSP in the octagon at UFC 94.

Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir (heavyweight championship)

Assuming Penn’s skull de-tenderizes in time after GSP ate his soul in UFC 94, the 100th UFC would be the perfect opportunity for BJ to fight the hungry Florian. Not to take away from the Sanchez vs Stevenson line but, let’s face it, the card isn’t bursting with MMA legends. But you get the point – these two fan-favorites would stand up and slug each other for three straight thrilling rounds.

Here are a handful of fights I’d like to bet on at the sportsbook come UFC 100. It would be like Griffin/Bonnar on steroids! I mean, uh, not on steroids…sorry, Stephan.

Forrest Griffin vs Rich Franklin

The UFC 95 odds are just two days away. But my gut tells me White will go the nobler route and simply build the greatest single fight card online betting fans have ever seen.

Please, Mr
